CSU TLPL Two-Day Institute Course Registration

Registration Now Open for Two Day Professional Learning Institutes at Cal State!

You are invited to join a dynamic group of teachers through Teacher Led Professional Learning (TLPL) institutes  – a two day teacher-led professional learning institute that connect you with fellow teachers all over southern California. Share strategies and refine your Common Core instruction over four weeks together. 

What is TLPL institute?
  • Professional Learning Series consisting of two full-day summer learning institutes
  • Content and grade level-specific support in aligning curriculum, developing lesson plans, and scaffolding Common Core skills
  • Led by current teachers with expertise in the Common Core
Why participate?
  • Immediate Impact: Sessions include hands-on strategies for you to participate in. At the end of the course, you will have Common Core aligned units and lesson plans that you can use immediately in your classroom.

Engaging All Students in Critical Thinking and Problem Solving with Mathematics (Gr 3-10)

Participants will learn about exploratory lessons and other tools that engage students in the Common Core Standards for Mathematical Practice (SMPs). Mathematical mindsets, along with the use of exploratory lessons and supporting tools, allow students to practice Math using 21st Century skills. Participants will utilize a variety of instructional strategies and tools to support critical thinking and problem solving for students in the math classroom.

Change Your Universe With 21st Century Tools: Google Classroom & Hyperdocs! (All grades)

How can we leverage technology to meet the needs of individual students? Let’s explore how to use Google Classroom and/or Hyperdocs to house various differentiation strategies and techniques. Launch into your next school year crystallizing the use of technology to keep students engaged and actively participating. Your students will discover a whole new classroom--one with creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking at its core.

Argue to Learn: Use Evidence-based Argument for Close Reading, Debate and Writing  (Grades 3-12)

Wondering how to address the Common Core shifts in ELA? Want to raise the level of instruction in Argument Reading and Writing? Teachers in this course will analyze the spiral progression of Argument Writing Standards from Kindergarten to 12th grade. Participants practice the Argument Protocol in literary and nonfiction texts to leverage oral discussion and close reading as tools for effective debate and persuasive writing.
